WEST PAC 2008

For most people everyone that knows me I am in the Navy. I am station out of Everett,WA on board the USS Abraham Lincoln CVN-72.

Then on March 13 we pulled out of Everett, WA headed to the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Our first stop was the city of San Diego, CA where we had to load on the air wing. The air wing is all the people that work on each plane that we carry onboard.  After San Diego we headed west. Passing thru time zones like most people cross state lines. Finally in April we hit our first port.  It was Singapore.

Singapore is a crazy place. The city is very modern. For our stay in Singapore most people visited a placed call “the Four Floors”.  It was just a big building of bars, clubs, and shops. Pretty much a crazy place that you could get anything.  But the exchange rate was not very high. A beer was about 4 american dollars.

Needless to say we pull out a couple days later. Then it was May already, and it meant we would stop off in Dubai. And it was hot. The city of Dubai is very clean, and it is crazy to see grass growing next to sand dunes.  The place I stayed the most was call the Sand Box.  And it looks like it sounds.  It has alot of tables, and places to eat about 3 different places. But the main place was the beer tent. Lets just say the Lincoln did its job. We drank the place dry every time we pulled in. And we pulled in 3 different times. The last time we pulled in was after 56 days out to sea with out seeing land. This was our longest time out to sea at one time.

Then came the month of Sept. And what a great month it was.  We got to leave the 5TH Fleet AOR, and start heading back east. We soon pulled in to Thailand. Yeah Thailand.  Umm if you have never been to Thailand, I say go. But if you are easily grossed out, or have some kind of morals might not be the best place to go.  Thailand is a on going party. Everynight is a hugh street party.(for the major cities, out side of town people are very poor and live in horrible conditions)  Beer was very cheap as just everything was.  Kids run in the streets all night long trying to sell things to you. Hookers are everywhere you look, and so are the cross dressing ones as well. Then just like the other ports we went too, we lefted again after a couple days.

The next stop was Hawaii. I wish i could stay it was great, and I layed out on the beach.  But sadly no. For deck dept. it was a working port. I did get to go out one night to downtown.  It was nice and the weather was great. Alot better from the 120 we had in Dubai and out in the middle of the gulfs we were in.  But we were soon back on our way to Everett.  But we still had one stop. It was back in San Deigo. And 3 days later 7 months from when we started on OCT 12 we pulled back in to our homeport.
